For members 13 to 18 years of age, SMCU's Student Checking is a no-fee checking account that is a great way to start down the right track to financial responsibility and credit consciousness.
Most financial institutions will issue only an ATM card to members younger than 16 years old. At SMCU, every student checking account holder receives a VISA® debit card upon opening an account and passing a checking account management quiz. Every day, Student Checking debit card holders can withdraw up to $100 cash, make deposits at any Co-op network ATM, and/or purchase up to $200 worth of merchandise anywhere VISA® is accepted.
Your debit card is just a few steps away:
Every Student Checking account holder 16 and older is eligible to apply for an SMCU Share Secured VISA® Credit Card (with a co-signing parent or legal guardian). At Seattle Metropolitan Credit Union, we have a commitment to financial education. That's why we want student checking account holders to learn about the importance of responsible credit management while there is still time to ask questions at home, before they go off to college.
