Green Auto Loans

If you're in the market for a fuel efficient car because you want to fight pollution and reduce greenhouse gases, SMCU would like to thank you by offering a .25% discount off of our already low auto loan rates.

According to the EPA, by choosing an automobile that achieves 25 miles per gallon rather than 20, you can prevent the release of about 17 tons of greenhouse gasses over the lifetime of your car.

The autos currently eligible for the green discount:

• Hybrid-Electric autos
• Gas or Diesel automobiles that average 25mpg/city or greater

Green Home Financing

Green building is a design and construction practice that promotes the economic well being of the family, community and environment. Elements of green building include energy efficiency, water stewardship, environmentally preferable building materials, waste reduction and toxic materials reduction. We are currently offering $400 off closing costs for green built homes financed through SMCU.

To qualify for an SMCU Green Loan discount, homes must be certified by Built Green, Energy Star, or LEED.

Green Home Equity Loans

Making a few energy-saving home renovations can make a big difference to the environment and can also be a very good investment. Now SMCU members can get a .25% interest rate discount on loans for qualifying home improvements, including:

• Solar panel systems
• Geothermal heating systems
• Radiant floor heating
• Double paned, low energy "E" windows
• Skylights and suntubes
• Solar outdoor lighting
• Xerascaping: landscaping with plants that require little watering.
• Other environmentally-friendly projects not on the list will be considered on a case by case basis.
