Earn a Faster Tax Refund! With SMCU and IRS Direct.

Want to receive your refund faster? Have it deposited directly into your SMCU account. More taxpayers are choosing direct deposit as the way to receive their federal tax refunds. More than 61 million people had their tax refunds deposited directly into their bank accounts in 2007. It’s a secure and convenient way to get your money in your pocket faster.

  • Security. The payment is secure — there is no check to get lost. Each year thousands of refund checks are returned by the US Post Office to the IRS as undeliverable mail. Direct deposit eliminates undeliverable mail and is also the best way to guard against having a tax refund stolen.
  • Convenience. There’s no special trip to the credit union or bank to deposit a check!  All you need is SMCU’s routing number (325081500) and the full account number where you would like the refund to be deposited.

To request direct deposit, follow the instructions for "Refund" on your tax return. Forms will vary, depending on your specific circumstances, but there should be an area where you enter SMCU’s routing number and your account number.

What If I Don’t Know My Account Number?

For security reasons, SMCU employees cannot provide your account number over the phone.
However, if you can’t make it in to a branch, there are a few different ways to find your account number.

Refer to your Account Statement:

Primary Savings
If you want your refund to go into your Primary Savings account, take your Account Number and add 01 at the end. So if your Account Number is 120000, you would use 12000001.

Checking
If you want your refund to go into a checking account, use the “MICR number” for that account, as shown here on your statement.

Refer to one of your checks for your account number and SMCU’s Routing Number:
